Team Set The Bar hits 1st competition

Two days ago Team Set The Bar hit its first competition.  We had a blast and everyone performed well.  I think everyone would have wanted better bench numbers but made up for it on deadlift.

My personal experience was a little crazy.  Weighing in at 233 Wednesday morning, I knew I wanted to compete at 220.  So out came the sweats and off came the 13 lbs.  Glad Tina from the YMCA was letting us weigh in Friday night.  So take it from me don't wait until 2 days before your competition to start cutting the weight.  I will admit that I should have easily been under 220 lbs before this competition but with my busy schedule my eating has been hit or miss and mostly miss.  Moral of the story make the effort early and you will benefit later.
Even though I weighed in at 220 on Friday night I wasn't able to fully re-hydrate in time for the competition and as a result more than likely would have had a better bench than I had.   Cramping most of Friday night and unable to sleep to well because of the anticipation of the competition was a factor in my overall performance.  Most of that expected being my first ever power lifting competition.

The team was admittedly a little nervous, only 1 out of 7 of us had ever even done a power lifting
competition.  Being the coach it was fun to help the team prepare, but was also difficult to mentally prepare for bench. No excuses here I just didn't get to my mark on bench.  I had a blast and the team did great!  There were not a lot of competitors but everyone cheered each other on and was fun to compete with such great people.  Looking forward to the next competition in November and will continue working with the team to keep progressing and getting stronger every workout.
